Mowed meadows surround the village of Skallelv, - a beautiful cultural landscape at first glance. But something important is missing, a diversity of the flowers and grass species. Hayfields or meadows disappeared from this area from the 1960s onwards. The last ones in the area are being lost in a war against cricket heather and "fireweeds". Nutrient-rich meadows are dominated by Sølvbunke (Deschampsia cespitosa), dry salt meadows are depleted, many have a thin peat layer, and crickets and willows eat in from the edges.
